Harmony Grove scores 64 in win over Woodlawn

The Harmony Grove Hornets improved to 3-0 in the 8 2A conference with their third straight blowout of a conference foe on Friday night at Bill Manning Field. This time they swarmed and stung the Woodlawn Bears 64-21.

Coach Tony Chambers’ team scored 8 first half touchdowns. Kentrell Hill put the first two on the board. He ran the first in from 21 yards out and then scored the second by taking a Gannon Bearden pass 36 yard for the score. Jase Garcia scored the next touchdown taking a Bearden pass 76 yards for the score. Shawn Lucas would score the next by taking a Bearden pass 42 yards for the touchdown. Xaylon Falls returned a punt 67 yards for the final touchdown of the first quarter. The score was 33 to 0 at the quarter break.

The second quarter’s first score was a 50 yard run by Jordan Hicks. He would also score the second one in the quarter on a 48 yard run. Mecca Arnold scored the next touchdown with a 46 yard run. Woodlawn’s Nick Ward scored on a 93 yard kick-off return to give the Bears their only points of the half. At half-time the Hornets controlled the game 52 to 7.
Each team scored two touchdowns in a sportsmanship rule shortened second half. In the third quarter Woodlawn scored first on an 8 yard pass play to Nicholas Willis. Dade Turner answered on the ensuing kick-off returning it 52 yards for a touchdown. At the end of three quarters the score stood at 58-14.
In the fourth, the Bears’ Nick Ward ran a kick-off back 91 yards for a touchdown, and Harmony Grove’s Damien Daniel caught a pass and went 66 yards for the Hornet’s final score of the evening. That set the final score at 64 to 21.

Hornets undefeated in conference so far

The win brings the Hornets’ record to 3-3 on the season and 3-0 in the conference. Woodlawn falls to 1-5 overall and 1-2 in the 8 2A.
Next Friday night Harmony Grove makes the short trip to Rogers Field in Bearden for a conference game. Kick-off is slated for 7:00.
